Job Summary:
The Mountain Resorts Legal team is looking for an attorney to join our talented group. The Mountain Resorts Legal team is a fun, agile team that provides legal support to the Company’s Mountain Division and a broad range of the corporate functions such as Health and Safety, Marketing, IT, Finance, Hospitality, and Food and Beverage.
This attorney will be report to the Assistant General Counsel and will provide legal support to the world class resorts in our Rocky Mountain Region like Park City, Vail, and Beaver Creek on a variety of matters including real estate, regulatory risk and other issues impacting our year-round operations.
This position can now live and work in any of the state in which Vail Resorts currently operates.
A successful candidate for this position will be hungry, humble and smart, be comfortable as a legal generalist, and possess a strong familiarity in areas of law such as land use and real estate. They will be able to quickly identify material risks and succinctly identify, communicate and drive mitigating steps forward.
Job Responsibilities:
Provide legal advice, counsel and support to the Mountain Division and corporate functions regarding year-round operations on a variety of legal issues;
Proactively identify trends in legal issues to strategically mitigate risk across mountain operations;
Support real estate transactions, as needed, including acquisitions, dispositions, easements, encroachments, deed preparation, licenses and leasing;
Collaborate with cross-functionally with other company departments to assist in developing and advising on company policies, procedures and best practices;
Contribute broadly to the leadership of the businesses, working effectively with senior management and creating strong trusted advisor relationships with the business leaders;
Adhere to and support standards and goals of the Company and the Legal Department; and
Other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and JD required.
Must have an active state bar license. If you have a non-Colorado state bar license, the successful applicant must qualify for a Colorado single-client bar license (or full Colorado bar license).
Agile and flexible thinker, with ability to learn new areas of law and the business.
Demonstrated commitment to providing exceptional service to business clients, including being resourceful and responsive.
Clear and concise communicator (written and oral) with all levels within the organization.
Demonstrated ability to be proactive, a team player and take responsibility for managing a variety of legal matters.
Sound judgment and ability to analyze problems, propose resolutions, and provide advice that is creative, practical and legally acceptable, taking into account the needs and objectives of the business.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to work under high pressure conditions and successfully handle urgent situations with patience and diplomacy.
Preferred:
Experience leading complex real estate transactions or land use matters
Experience with issues impacting public lands, US Forest Service or state leased lands.
Experience handling issues in water law, environmental compliance or tramway boards.
The budgeted range starts at $130,000 - $145,000 + annual bonus. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience.
